By using our website or submitting any form on our platforms, you agree to the
practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our
website or submit your personal information.

- Information you provide directly — When you fill in our contact
form, get-involved form, or any application form, you provide us with details such
as your name, email address, phone number, location, and the nature of your enquiry.
- Automatically collected information — When you visit our website,
we may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser
type, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This is collected through analytics
tools (see Section 5).
- Communications — If you email or WhatsApp us directly, we
retain the contents of those communications.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process your programme application or enquiry and respond to you
- Match you with appropriate mentors, programmes, or opportunities
- Send you updates about programmes, events, and EDB news (only if you opt in)
- Improve our website and understand how visitors use it
- Comply with our legal obligations as a registered organisation in Nigeria
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and misuse of our services
We will never sell your personal data to any third party, ever.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Union or United Kingdom, we process your data on the
following legal bases:
- Consent — where you have explicitly given us permission (e.g. ticking the consent checkbox on a form)
- Legitimate interests — to operate our organisation, respond to enquiries, and improve our services
- Legal obligation — where required by Nigerian or international law
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share it only in these limited circumstances:
- With mentors — if you apply for the Signal Mentorship Programme, we share relevant profile information with your assigned mentor
- With service providers — such as Netlify (website hosting) and email platforms we use to communicate with you. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data
- With partner organisations — only with your explicit consent, and only information relevant to a specific programme
- If required by law — if we are legally compelled to share information by a Nigerian court or regulatory authority
5. Analytics and Cookies
Our website may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.
Google Analytics collects anonymous data about pages visited and time on site.
It does not identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics by
installing the
Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Our website uses only essential cookies — small files stored on your device —
necessary for the site to function. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for
which it was collected. Specifically:
- Contact form submissions — retained for 2 years
- Programme applications — retained for the duration of your participation plus 2 years
- Email communications — retained for 3 years
- Analytics data — retained for 14 months (Google Analytics default)
After the retention period, your data is securely deleted.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — ask us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data
- Objection — object to certain types of processing
- Portability — request your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent — at any time, if processing was based on your consent

8. Children's Privacy
Our programmes are designed for young people aged 15 and above. We do not
knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child
under 13 has submitted data to us, please contact us immediately and we will
delete it promptly.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal
data from unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. Our website is served over
HTTPS (encrypted connection). However, no method of internet transmission is 100%
secure — we encourage you to contact us only through our official channels.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update
the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this
page periodically. Continued use of our website after changes constitutes
acceptance of the updated policy.
